Director of Golf
Steve has been an integral part of the RQ Team for over ten years. Originally from Christchurch New Zealand, Steve has also lived and worked in London. Having played a number of sports over the years and some of the highlights include being selected to represent Canterbury in soccer, softball and table tennis. Steve is a keen water sport enthusiast and has competed in and won jet ski races in New Zealand.
Steve commenced playing golf as a sport in 1999 and played pennants for Windsor Golf Club in Christchurch before moving to Brisbane in 2004.
On arrival in Brisbane he started working at Golf World before taking up the position of Golf Operations Assistant at RQGC in 2006. During this time Steve represented Australia in golf at the 2009 World Transplant Games on the Gold Coast and finished 3rd overall. In 2011 he represented New Zealand in the World Transplant Games in Sweden this time and finished 3rd overall. Steve plays the RQ course when time permits and has a handicap of 7.
This experience and a passion for the game drives Steve and his team in the Golf Centre. They are ready and willing to assist you to ensure a professional RQ service experience.

Chris Gibson is a full vocational member of the PGA of Australia, holding advanced status in coaching and is also a level 2 certified AimPoint instructor. In 2015, Chris was awarded Queensland PGA Teaching Professional of the Year.
Chris has been a golf professional for over a decade and is currently the Head Professional at Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane. Over the years, Chris has refined his coaching abilities through playing competitively on the Australasian tour and establishing himself as a highly sought after coach in south-east Queensland. Chris is a progressive professional who engages in professional development regularly in order to remain competitive within the professional golf coaching market. His use of technology such as Trackman, K Vest, Swing Catalyst and high speed cameras add to his wide repertoire of coaching techniques and skills. Chris’s coaching philosophy is focused on simplicity and longevity in the game, which enables him to coach players of all skill levels.
Many of Chris’s students have experienced success at club, state, national and tour levels. Chris coaches many players on the Australian and International tours such as Kevin Lee (Asia, One Asia and Australasian Tours), Same Eaves (Japanese Challenge tour) and Maverick Antcliff (US based elite amateur) to name a few. He is also seeing success with his junior students such as Jed Morgan and Chris Jimenez who were both recently named in the 2016 Queensland Junior Interstate Boys Team, and also Kirsty Hodgkins who is a member of the Queensland State Girls Team and has been recruited to a USA division one NCAA college.
In 2015, Chris was appointed as one of the coaches for the Kelvin Grove Queensland Golf School of Excellence and has been integral in the success of the students during this time. In light of this success, Chris has again been appointed as a coach in 2016.
Outside of his coaching responsibilities at Royal Queensland, Chris is actively involved in the golf community. Chris assists Queensland University of Technology biomechanics staff and PHD students with current research projects, he co-author’s articles published in Golf WRX which is one of the largest online golf forums, he is on the panel for Golf Queensland and assists with state team coaching, and he frequently travels to regional areas of Queensland to provide assistance at development clinics.
Assistant Golf Professional
Dave is a Certified Member of the Australian PGA and holds an advanced status in coaching and game development. Dave completed his traineeship in 2001 and passed with distinction and an excellence in education award. Dave played both the Australian and Asian Tours until 2007 and then turned his focus to coaching.
Dave has been fortunate enough to learn from and work with some of the leading coaches around the world including David Leadbetter, Pete Cowen, Mac O’Grady and was personally mentored by Gary Barter.
He was previously the professional at St Lucia for the past five years where he enjoyed fitting and coaching golfers of all levels and has a very simple “cause and effect” approach that has proven very effective.
Since joining Royal Queensland in 2017, Dave is thoroughly enjoying his time here and is looking forward to continuing to help the Members both in the Golf Shop and in the new Teaching Facility.
In recent years Dave, has coached the 2015 Queensland Trainee of the Year, Australian Champion and numerous other elite players. He was a keynote speaker for the Trainee Intensive Schools and was on the PGA steering committee for coaching.
Touring professional for 4 years between 2009 and 2012, Jean has played on high-level circuits all around the world including the European Challenge Tour and Las Americas Tour. Throughout his development as an amateur and a Tour Pro, Jean has acquired an intensive knowledge about all aspects of the game from internationally renowned coaches such as George Will (3-time Ryder Cup player), Karl Morris (one of Europe’s leading Performance Coaches), Ken Berndt and Ian Triggs (highly respected and experienced Australian golf instructors).
Originally from Belgium, Jean came to Australia in 2013 to undertake his traineeship with the Australian PGA and expand his knowledge about the game. Jean’s coaching philosophy is to combine technique, mindset and simplicity altogether. Part of the new generation of coaching, Jean uses the latest technological devices such as high speed camera and Swing Catalyst to assess the technical components of his students’ motion. In order to stay updated with the coaching trends, Jean constantly engages with other PGA professionals and attends seminars organised by the PGA or other recognised institutions that participate in growing the game of golf.
