RQGC JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY
The Junior Golf Pathways Program consists of three distinct developmental stages which are aimed at providing a long term focus on the development of Junior golf at Royal Queensland Golf Club. The program’s objectives involve:
Firstly, to introduce Juniors to the game of golf not only to the essential technical aspects of golf but also to the more holistic aspects of golf – friendships, fitness and fun (Junior Development Program);
Secondly, to provide golfing programs that enhance the development of golfing skills and the ability to play competitive golf (Junior Advanced Program); and
Thirdly, to deliver a program for the aspirational Junior that develops their skills to the highest level and provide them with all the resources and support to participate in high performance competition (High Performance Program).
Whereas the above three programs are structured and provided by the Club’s qualified coaching staff, there are “other programs” conducted by the Club to supplement the structured program.
The objective of Royal Queensland Golf Club is to provide an opportunity for all of our Junior Members to enjoy their membership through learning the game, forming friendships, use of the Club’s resources and developing a commitment to the culture and traditions of Royal Queensland Golf Club.
The Junior Development Program is the foundation of the Club’s Junior Program. It consists of three developmental stages commencing with the Bronze Group, and progressing through to Silver and then Gold. The participant’s progression is determined by the coaches and is based on the participant’s skill development and maturity at each stage.
The program is conducted on Sunday mornings during school term (7 weeks per term) and provides coaching along with the opportunity to play on the course at the end of each clinic. We have a strict participant to coach ratio to ensure proper attention to individual skill development as well as maintaining safety standards.
Clinics are structured by adherence to a specified curriculum for each stage and conducted by the Club’s three PGA qualified golf coaches. In order to progress to the next level, participants must pass age-appropriate tests that examine their ability to execute the golf and athletic skills they have developed. Gradings are held on a regular basis during the year, giving every participant the opportunity to demonstrate their improvement and ability to advance to the next level. The gradings are at the sole discretion of the golfing professional.
At the end of each term, participants take part in a stage Championship which is played over a set number of holes dependent on the level of the participant. This is always a popular and fun way to finish each term.
Junior Advanced Program
The Junior Advanced Program caters for Junior golfers who wish to further develop their golfing skills to a higher level of proficiency and enhance their competitive opportunities at Club level as well as Junior State competitions.
In addition to the clinics, the Club provides a 9-hole competition on Saturday afternoons which affords Junior golfers the opportunity to practice and further develop playing skills in a competitive environment.
Clinics | Tuesdays & Thursdays | 4:00pm – 5:00pm
High Performance Program
Developed and based on world’s-best-practice, our HPP provides aspirational Junior golfers with the opportunity to take their game to the highest level.
Along with tailored skill development, the program introduces Juniors to a more holistic approach that includes the importance of diet, physical exercise, and “mindset” as well as public speaking training.
We also offer this group pre-tournament game and strategy planning at Junior State events with one of our highly sought after PGA Accredited Coaches.
Clinics | Tuesdays & Thursdays | 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Other Junior Programs
The Club recognises that many Juniors wish to develop their golfing skills outside the above three specific programs outlined above.
The additional programs (clinics) conducted by the Club’s golf coaches include:
