Junior Development Programme
Royal Queensland offers a high quality Junior Development Programme for 5 to 17 year olds to introduce them to golf, to raise their skill levels, and above all, to have fun! The Programme includes expert tuition from highly qualified PGA Professionals and current Member Adam Scott is the patron of the programme.
The programme has three levels, starting with the 5-7 year old Bronze Group, then players with little or some experience (Silver Group), to more experienced golfers (Gold Group). We also try and keep age groups fairly close even if the abilities might vary, and so maintain any social contacts that the players may bring from school or family.
Clinics are normally scheduled for Sunday mornings on 20 occasions throughout the year. In addition, there are competitions organised through the school holidays. The programme involves one hour’s coaching for the Silver and Gold Groups before the players venture onto the course for 18, 6, or 3 holes, depending on the group. Rules and Etiquette education is included which is such an important part of the great game of golf.
The Bronze Group also have an hour each Clinic with two Professionals. The coaching programme is supervised by RQ Head Professional Chris Rutherford with the clinic coaching delivered on a very personal level by RQ Professionals Andrew Marchbank and Richard Gompels, plus new Third Year Trainee Leon Ang assisting with Silver Group. Skills testing is also important and is carried out regularly, so that the players can assess their improvement and identify areas which need more work. Generally the players have a lot of enjoyment, and the year culminates with a Championship round for each group, followed by a prize-giving presentation.
